#11 about 8M

Quoting Lisa Hanawalt, this weekend I felt deep despair about everything and I was trying to finish this drawing with slutty little horses in it, and it was hard to keep going, because who cares about slutty little horses at a time like this?

I came back from the ashes to talk about Feminism. Yeah, I can hear you say, AGAIN?!

Well yes, it's International Women's Day.

This year I'm tired, it's very shitty out there, and I barely feel any energy left to keep complaining. But you know what? I'm going to because if I don't do it, who will, amirite? So for that reason, I wrote something the patriarchy would've wanted me not to write, just to spite it. You can read it in English here and in Spanish here.

Here's a paragraph that didn't make the cut because it didn't make sense to add, but I still love the story so I'm sharing it here:

I was randomly watching the Snowboard Big Air competition during the Winter Olympics this year, and it was all cool and exciting to watch because it’s something I can’t imagine ever doing at my advanced age without dying trying. The women competing were so cool and were doing things I didn’t even know were possible. And then, Murase Kokomo. She came in and did a 1440. If you’re not a snowboarding expert like I am now, let me explain. A 1440 is doing 4 full 360° spins in the air (360 times 4 equals 1440) and surviving it. Surviving isn’t scored, but I think it matters in the context of it. Back to the topic, when Murase Kokomo landed safely on the snow, I didn’t understand right away how much of a big deal this was, but by the time I saw her face, it was clear. It was a huge deal for her, but also for all the other athletes who were competing against her. They all came to hug, applaud, and congratulate her. They even carried her on their hands to celebrate (there’s a very nice metaphor there), and I don’t know what happened next because my tears made everything blurry.

These are women who will save us because they’re doing exactly what the patriarchy doesn’t want us to do: for us to celebrate each other, for us to know that when one of us accomplishes something, it’s helping the rest of us to accomplish it too.

In a world that pushes us to feel despair and hopelessness at all times, being joyful and enjoying life are acts of resistance. Let's keep resisting by drawing horny horses.

To my fellow women and allies, let's keep fighting! To the men, join the fight!

¡se va a caer! 💜💚❤️‍🔥

enjoyed and enjoying

✷ Read Heart the Lover and it has the most beautiful first line I have ever read, you knew I'd write a book about you one day. Devastating. Just as Call Me by Your Name, which I borrowed from the library but is so good I had to buy it to underline ALL of it, basically.

✷ Watched Sentimental Value, and it left me thinking about it until now. I still think about it from time to time. It's beautiful and heartbreaking and it's everything a movie should be.

Justine 29 de marzo, 2026 #12 am I an idiot? Quoting Raphael Bob-Waksberg, I would try to tell her: Things will get better, but it came out as: Nothing didn’t get worse. Some days ago, I was reading I Want to Go Home But I’m Already There by Róisín Lanigan at night. I started reading it because a) I love Irish authors and b) I read it was both funny and dark and… and an Irish author being funny? Color me interested! Around 9% of the book, there’s an incident that made me think, ok, maybe at...

Justine 29 de julio, 2025 #10 about Labubus Quoting my husband, I'm taking this one Labubu at a time. Shout out to fellow creative Zoey, who gave me the pep talk I needed on Friday 🫶 Maybe you're wondering what I'm doing in your inbox on a random Tuesday night. Well, wonder no more because I have something very important to talk about. This week, somebody put a Labubu on the tomb of Karl Marx (although it might be a Lafufu -- or fake Labubu). As mentioned in one of the comments on the...

Justine 1 de abril, 2025 #9 about freaking meta Quoting Mark Zuckerberg, a squirrel dying in your front yard may be more relevant to your interests right now than people dying in Africa. It's true, I've spent many minutes watching the neighbor's cat watching insects. I've also spent countless hours watching videos of cats watching birds and making weird sounds. But let's rewind. Who's fault is that? I read Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams and fuck Meta very much. Like we all know how...
